Since I've made the switch to forefoot running and swimming and cycling alot more, my calves have been fatigued and tight all the time. I take official days off from working-out but still they were tired. What to do? Stretch...sure. Ibuprofen...ok. Still they were tired.
Lately I started see people around the gym wearing this shm-ancy knee high socks. I found out that what those people where wearing were compression socks. What?! They're not only for diabetics and the Silver Sneaker's Club?! That's right runners, triathletes and other worker-out-ers wear them to enhance their performance and for....get this....recovery for their legs.
So I search the internet about these socks..... SSccrrreeeecchhhh......$50 a pop!! When I found out the ridiculous price for A pair of these socks, I thought that my dream for my calves to be recovered and feeling normal had come to an end. Being undeterred by $$. I sought what I could do on the more thrifty side. Looking in Wal-mart in the diabetic/cane aisle I found compression socks for $8 and 2 come in the package. Steal!!
I've been wearing them to bed for the past 2ish months and it seems to help rest my legs. If nothing else I like the feel of the squeeze and prevention of varicose veins. Well, I'm not sure on the varicose vein thing, it could not be all scientifically but it makes sense in my mind.
